Abstract
To evaluate the immunogenicity of formalin inactivated Hantaan virus vaccine, the duration of antibody persistence and the timing of booster vaccination, the vaccine (Hantavax) was inoculated subcutaneously in 52 healthy volunteers for three times at 0, 1 and 13 months. IgG antibody against Hantaan virus was tested by IFAT in vaccinees at 0, 1, 2, 6, 13 and 14 month respectively after vaccinations. The results were as follows: 1. Seroconversion rate after vaccination was 52 %, 94 %, 84 %, 35 % and 94% at 1, 2, 6, 13 and 14 month respectively. 2. While mean reciprocal titer of IgG antibody to Hantaan virus increased markedly to 91 after second dose, it decreased to 78 and 43 at 6 and 13 month respectively. After booster vaccination at 13 month IgG titer increased again to 102. There was no sexual difference in the seroconversion rate and the duration of antibody persistence. 3. In control group who were given normal saline only, nobody developed antibody. 4. A few vaccinees experienced side effects which were mild and tolerable. It is suggested that booster vaccination 1 year after first dose of Hantavax would be necessary to maintain effective immunity against Hataan virus.
